Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Review

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has been unveiled at a special event in China, with the fitness tracker featuring a new color display and the same low price tag.

The latest iteration of the device has been leaked consistently over the past few weeks and months, with Xiaomi itself even revealing the tracker was approaching launch in an earnings call back in March. Now, we have all the official details.

Unlike last year's tracker, which offered a 0.78-inch OLED display with 80 x 128 pixel resolution, the new Mi Band 4 instead brings a 0.95-inch color AMOLED display with 120 x 240 resolution. It's still touchscreen, coming with 77 different faces to pick between, and also comes with a built-in microphone to enable voice commands (and control compatible devices) and a six-axis accelerometer to aid tracking accuracy.

That tracking includes exercise modes for running and cycling, as well as waterproof protection up to 5ATM (around 50 metres) and the ability to identify different swimming strokes, such as breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle. For swimmers who want advanced metrics, there's a SWOLF score on-board, too.

All the other features that came packing on the previous generation, such as contactless payment support, notifications and music control, are also here.

The battery has even jumped in size from the Mi Band 3, from 110mAh to 135mAh. Xiaomi says this will lead to 20-day battery life, which is around the same that the previous two generations enjoyed - we'll be testing this out in our full review to see if the bigger battery means better performance.

In China, the price has been set at CNY 169 for the standard edition (roughly $25), with the NFC variant priced at CNY 229 (roughly $33). UK pricing has now also been announced with the tracker set to cost £34.99. Sales begin on 16 June in China while a UK launch is expected at some point in the summer.
